Plz Help, Connecting L1'S

Is it nessesary to have some kind of magnifier when connecting the L1's? I know it will help but i do not have any magnifying glasses or anything. I just want to know if anyone else connected them without a magnifying glass

of course. they are big enough to do with the naked eye.
