Well, didn't know if anyone was interested in swapping the LED in their mouse. But, here's a tutorial I found. I hope I'm not late in posting this.

probably because red light has better properties than other colors as far as tracking. I have heard people who used blue say their mouse feels skippy and inaccurate. Just to let you know.

Remember the reciever is tuned into the original transmtter LED. A change will not improve performance but not necessarily degrade it either but you will never know what will happen till after you try it.

Well, the dude added two blue LED's in replacement of the one red, in order to increase the quality of mouse return. So, the red and two blue's are identical in performance.

not sure how much i believe that. seeing as how the lasers they put in are made to work with the wavelength from red light. just because he has two blue ones...they dont add their wavelength together, to make it different.

1 x 1 is not equal to 2 :-/

woops, i meant to say optical eye, not laser...im not talking about the LEDs, im talking about the optical eyes are made to work with red leds. except the logitec ones that come with blue leds (only one i know of that come with a different color). but the light from the leds is necessary for the eye to work properly, and the correct color light is also important.

so it may look cool, but you are hurting the performance of your optical mouse if you are doing this modification. no matter how many extra leds you put in

Well, the dude said his works just as fine as it used to. I have a test mouse I could try it on, before I really go at it on mine, so it's all good.

I noticed no difference when I went from red to green. Responce time was still just as good. I don't think the color matters too much if it illuminates the surface to a high enough level. The green LED I have in mine is 15,000 MCD.

aint nothin stopping you from putting a LED on the bottom of your roller mouse. least that way you dont have to worry bout wavelengths and all that crap :argue:

lol Cool. I've thought about doing this for awhile now. I'll have to get some leds and give it a go sometime. Thanks for the linky. :)
