argh! my ears!

hey, can anybody help me out here? i was installing my new vantec necus control panel and a hard drive cooler. i booted up the system and now theres a high pitched noise coming from the speakers/headphones. what happened??

Try disconnecting either (one at a time) both new devices. Maybe you can narrow it down to see if its the hd cooler or the vantec.

sounds good. why would they mke any noise like that though?

Could be distortion from the power sources or something.

The Vantek uses PMW pulse width modulation to control the output power to the fans. Maybe there is some of that high frequency hash getting into your analog/digital sound imputs. Check an see that you separate the fan wires from any sound I/O wires. Twisted pairs also helps to cancel out interferance.
