Greetings, i just started this evening and nothing appears to be happening......this computer isnt the fastest maybe i have just not waited long enough :)

nothing new has appeared in the dos box in like 15 minutes is this normal ?

I DL the EM program and it is not showing any info except my cpu, nothing in the time per packet. at the bottom it shows cpu usage as 100% but the green bar at the bottom reads 0%.

any ideas ?

thanks Xan

Welcome to the team anything you want to ask we will be glad to help with.

What work unit is your system working on some frames will take more time than others. What type of system do you have that will help us trouble shoot what is going on.
Folding at home works on Idle Class system threads. So what ever is not being used by the system it will eat the rest of it up so no CPU time is wasted.

One thing that you might want to check/change is in the client.cfg file
their is a part that looks like this
ask=yes make sure it says ask=no instead so than when its done with the work unit you don't have to give it the ok to connect to stanford.

ok dont laugh at me too hard but this computer is just a amd k6-2 450 @ 550. if this works ok ill hook up my duron 800 system as well when its not in use.

is it even worth it to use this one ?

by work unit do you mean the protein 274 bbalphaua ?

I think you can do it but its going to take leaveing it all all day and night every day. My girlfriend has an AMD K6-2 350 @ 400 or 450 and she can't leave it on all the time because of reasons we wont go into here. So I am building her a folding box. All I need now are a few more case fans, a motherboard(I'm geting a new one and she gets my old one), and a small hard drive. All you need for a folding box is:
going to be the normal stuf you have to have for a normal PC
CPU, heatsink, motherboard, ram, case and fans. This is where it different.
You need a small hard drive 1gig is more than enough
1 cd rom drive nothing special
a netowork card and router if your on cable
I think thats about it.

Then ya just leave it on all the time and Fold like a madman.

Welcome to our team! I think the K6 can do units within the 3 days time limit. Just watch what happends when you hook up that Duron, it will be WAY faster! :)

Fold on!

I would think you'll do fine with the k6-2, I know I am doing great with a k6-2 500@501default...think I'm ranked somewhere around 58,000 :D But I complete a WU in just over 24 hrs typically.
