View Full Version : Wife ain't gonna like this.
I put this in here as ultimately my hobby is oc'ing and in particular burning up vid cards. Just ordered a cg (I hope) a64 3000, epox 8kda3+ and an 6800 gt (BFG OC). This along with the twin rad box under construction, not to mention the 320w tec I recieved last week and then there is the 'cheap hon' 110w that just happened to come with it...well, the wife may not be happy about this one. Fortunately got her a very nice bracelet for her b'day as well as another for v'tines so maybe????? nah, she is going to be mad.
On a lighter note, have had to sit back and reflect a little during the last couple of months as to why I started to oc to start and it occurred to me it was not to be the absolute fastest but to try to be the best at what I could reasonably afford. This (and the wife) is why I purchased the above. At least this will get me back into the AMD camp which I really did hate to leave early last year. Fingers crossed and maybe 2.8Ghz. Seems like a reasonable goal, 2.6Ghz, definately.
We really do need a 'Wife Ain't Gonna Like This' area for those of us who, well...are or will be in the dog house. Take Care All.

Buy It and say your sorry! Its better than going through the hellish "can I please?"scenario. This might sound insensitive but I found it to be the best way as long as your not literally taking food off the table!

Think wives are bad, try parents who know something about computers but don't like overclocking. You get questions like why do you need such a big PS, six case fans or an athlon Xp-m when th desktop should work just as well.

Beleive me,wives are worse!

"Do you love the computer more than me?" :bang head
Silly question, time to take the boys and mom out to dinner. Need to top it off with a massauge tonight. She really likes that and it might kind of tone things down when the Fed Ex truck pulls up.

Yeah, when we moved in together, I was receiving two or three packages a week...
"What do you need another fan for?"
"That fan sounds like an aeroplane!" *shouting over tornado*
"What the hell is that?" *fan controller*
"You need another cable?"
"Where did you go after work?" *went to Fry's, I promise!!*
..."what did you get?" *nothing, I was just window shopping!*
Eeek!
::WARNING:: Do not overclock a computer you didn't buy! Parents get reallllly pee'd off when they see smoke coming out of their AMD 5x86 133MHz system....

This should really be in the general discussion section.

Got a little more cutting to do on the box. It is built, just have to cut in the fans, rheo and temp gauge, paint. Probably looking at next week on getting it up. I get a chance tonight and I will post up a pic of where it is at.

LMAO Sorry....that post really is funny. My computer is kinda half mine half my moms, and she is not happy with:
1.) Total ghetto ness of fans resting on stuff...heatsinks rubber banded to GPU's...Jigpu patented staple sinks on just about any chip they can fit on..fans ductaped to backside of both sides open case, ghetto looking fan house ductaped to the heatsink with 2 80MM SF2's on high.
2.)SF2's being on high, box fan blowing through case also on high
3.)*beeee dooooo beeee doooo beeee dooo beeeee dooo* "OMG your CPU is at 90C! If I shut it off now im gonna lose my work!!!" "I wish this beeping would shutup while I save my work!"
(dont worry...my I trust my 1700 to last a minute or two at 90C. It has been up to 120 ish for a split second before.)
This should really be in the general discussion section.
Techinically it should be in General Computer Related Discussion becuase GCRD is bassically GD, but with topics relating to computers. If this is discussing the computer Silver is building more than his wife, then probably general hardware ;)
Original single rad which is still in place.
A couple pics of the new box.
80 vs 120 which is going in. This box is being built almost entirely by jigsaw so rude comments on its construction are not welcome. Heck I am surprised that the box is pretty square. $9.95 walmart single speed jigsaw, wood glue and one c clamp. Such is the life of the poor.
Now I am not a big proponent of using the excuse that I do not have the tools. I make do. What is more important is that the idea is tested. Now, as it turns out SVC did not due real well by me (that's another story) so the fans are changed a little bit. It will have 2 ys tech 125 CFM and 2 Sunon 108 CFM fans. Rads are 77' Bonneville. One is copper and one is brass. I am mounting the rheo and the temp gauge rather high in the seperated compartment so as to allow me the room to add another smallish (chevette?) type rad in the seperate compartment to cool the vid card should I choose to put the 320w tec on the a64 3000. All in all what should be an unobtrusive living room solution that the family (read wife) is good with and yet should be effective. This is of course based on my experience with the single rad on the dual 120 ys 120 x 38 fans presently in use. The power supply is located in the seperate compartment and serves only to power the fans as I do not want the cpu, etc starved for power. It is a generic 300w psu. The pump is located outside of the box at its' rear and is not visible unless one get under the desk to take a look behind the box. The top of the box will be permanently attached once all is fitted. The sides are removable and are attached by means of screw while the sides are slid into the groove created by the molding. Interior of the radiator side of the box is 9.5 inches deep by 13 inches wide and is the same dimension presently in use. This allows for good flow across the radiator face while not putting nearly the load on the fan bearings and therefore aiding in quiting them down. I would love to take credit for the ideas however it is not to be. Weapon has given me ideas (unwittingly possibly thou true) as well as taking several ideas from others and throwing in a twist here and there of my own. The real question that is of interest to me is whether it can handle a 320w tec run at 10v (210w). I know it will be able to handle basic water cooling and should in fact improve on the present cooling as if the rads are split then flow can be slowed through the rads while flow at the rbx can be increased. I am pretty sure that it can also handle both the cpu and gpu (6800 gt) under good oc's. Now as to the stacked 320 topped by the 110? That is another question. The 110 should be on a seperate loop/power supply. At any rate it allows me to play with some ideas.
Horrible spelling...
