Sure, why not. There are always folks who want to do things differently.

yeh, but with all the problems windows has i dont think there would be any other users, if people wanted to think differently they should get a apple mac

each OS has its advantages and its disadvantages.

Windows - easy to use, OK multitasking, general purpose. A little bit unflexible and unstable.

MacOS - reasonably stable, easy to use, but no protected memory, no sdecent multitasking

Linux - As flexible as a rubber d*ldo!!! Stable and very powerful. Difficult to configure tho...

I agree, there would still be people using Windows, despite the high price and low flexability to other operating systems. Although if Linux, Unix, etc were to go mainstream, the gaming and software industry would follow. (and I bet we would get more efficient games than something built for windows would ever give us :) )

The main problem with windows is Microsoft that triees to monopolize the market y crushing both competitors and consumers (unlike companies like AT&T) and earnin money on it every way possible (welcome to windows restaurants. if you do not like the way we cook, get OUT!) :).

I think that the choice that you get with linux is really good - loads of different distros, package managers, window managers, web browsers...

yea but for now its all a compatability issue.

My Windows Mel. Bites, what is the best alternative to the Windows monopoly? I need a powerful yet friendly O.S. that will not crash like the Windows systems. Any input would be great, also customers support has to at least be minimal. I think Bill Gates is still sore at Apple and I.B.M. and he is taking it out on us. Everwonder what O.S. Bill Gates really runs???

i think windows is a idiots os, everything is eays to do and there isn't much to change, mainstream linux could scare tecnophobes even more but if linux was the only option then less peole will be in the computer business

but if Linux would be the BIG OS, everybody would learn how to use it, and then, windows would seem very hard to use. Same thing with dos : all you have to do is remember what to type, and you can do whatever you want !

windows would not seem hard to use because it isn't, people can sit down having never used a computer before and use windows, you have to give credit where it's due it is user friendly. Most of my windows problems come from my own muddling about etc.. and installing beta drivers.

You are right about Windows is very easy to use. But if you used MacOS or Linux or Unix all your life, that you knew all the commands and everything, and then you installed Windows. It would be hard to anything in there because of the difference between Windows and other OSes. And once you know how to use, it seems very easy, where other people that never touched that OS would think the exact opposit.

I know what your saying it's all a matter of what your used to, but even if the world did use the unix's they would still find windows and macos incredibally simple, if you could learn the unix environment then windows should be a doddle, in fact I would bet many people who have used unix's all their lifes would find windows very restrictive

You are right, windows is a lot more easy to use, and, although I never used Unix, the GUI is kind of looking like Windows 3.1, and as I used windows 3.1 for about 7 years, learning win98 or so was very easy

Actually, I heard that they were filing for bankruptcy or something like that. They *do* exist though, I just have the feeling that most people are just emulating there games.

Yep, heard the same thing. I think their history or at least "reorganizing".

Also, Mac OS X has protected memory and fantastic multi-tasking. Just to let you know.

Last ditch effort for an evolutionary deadend.
