I overclocked my Slot-A Athlon from 650 to 744MHz and it wouldn't go any higher.

I have a Soltek SL-77KVB mobo and I haven't found out what the vcore is now at, but there's an option in BIOS to change the vcore up or down a bit, so I was wondering that do I dare to change the vcore or will it toast my poor athlon. And if I change it can it get me any higher ?

There's a one extra 80mm fan blowing out the hot air in the case now and the temperature won't raise higher than 38C.

Go to www.tweakfiles.com and get a program called SiSoft SandraTE and install it. This will tell you the skinny on your system including temps if your M/B chipset supports it (it should). I would recommend and intake fan also. You want to get cool air inside too. There should be a place in the front of your case to install an 80mm fan.

Your chip is a 1.6v. On some boards I had problems raising the vcore via the bios. I had to use a Gold Finger card to get the voltages up. On the 650 Athlon, using a gold finger card I was able to get the voltage up to 1.75v. My K7 came from Step-Thermodynamics - and they had an excellent HSF setup on the chip, and I was able to o/c my 650 up to 800, without any trouble.

So you think the cpu is just heating up too much when I try to go past the 744MHz ? So if it's heating too much already then I guess raising the vcore would mayby raise the heat too much.
Though it's running at 32C idle with the current setting so can it heat up that much just by changing the FSB to 124 from 114 ?

I can't change the multiplier (it's 6.5), but I can change the FSB which is now at 114. When I change it to the next 124 it won't even give a signal to the monitor. Everything seems to be starting up normally when I listen to the sounds it's making but I won't get anything to the monitor.

The weirdest thing is that after I installed the one extra fan, my second HD has dissappeared, it won't show even in the list at the startup when it checks all the devices. Can this be a power issue, I mean that somehow there isn't enough power to all devices ? I have 300W power supply so it should be enough, or should it ?
