Alright I am confused. I have two Quantum fireball Plus AS's 20.5 gig ATA 100 drives.... What is the difference between UDMA 100 and ATA 100?
I amseriously considering gettting an ABIT KG7Raid motherboard and using Raid Level 0 for stripping for better performance. Since the KG7RAID is UDMA 100 and the drives are ATA 100 will they not work in the way I am thinking??? Can someone please explain this?
Also anyone with this setup please let me know about performance increases...

I think udma100 is just another work for ata100.
So i think u will be just fine using it on the kg7 controller
Ultra DMA 100 (UDMA100) is the same thing as ATA/100> They're both the transfer speed of the drive.
UDMA100 is Ultra Direct Memory Access up to 100MBps and refers to the controller onboard your motherboard or a separate controller card. ATA100 is Advanced Technology Attachment up to 100MBps and refers to the drive attachment itself. They aren't the same thing but do work in unison to provide the same result...100MBps transfer speeds.

What would be involved in setting up RAID 0 stripping on an ABIT KG7 motherboard with raid. Do i just plug the two drives into the IDE3&4 slots and leave IDE 1&2 empty???

For raid - IDE 3 & 4 are your raid ports. Hook up your drives - one on 3 (as master) and one on 4 (as master). Then configure your raid in the HPT controller on boot ( pressing CNTL + H). IDE 1 & 2 will be for your other IDE devices.
I stated to hook each drive as a master on 3 & 4, as this gives better performance.

ATA is a Seagate thing, dating back to the post PIO4 mode 486 board stuff. UltraATA is Seagate, UltraDMA is anyone else without rights to use ATA. Theres probably CompTIA/IEEE RFC's on this. Anyhow its old school. For modern day, there is no difference.
I just bought the KT7A. I was dead set on the 370 Raid board but started cutting costs. So I saved $20 on the board minus $70 for the additional Barracuda 20gig. But after stripping on servers (scsi albiet), I will build an IDE stripe down the road. You cant lose with a stripe (unless you lose 1 drive!)
I been building servers and workstations for 15 years, and the KT7A is my first Abit board. I have to say I was really impressed with the product and documentation, just top shelf for the $$

ok....i m stupid but what's a stripe?
and how can u measure the speed that a drive runs at?
i have a quantum fireball LM and i m not very sure how fast it runs at....thx
