are you making them with the VCD option in Nero? Or are you just burning the file?, home dvd drives need to read the info that tells it it is a vcd,dvd etc. i use nero all the time to make vcd's svcd's with no problem.
Also, make sure that your dvd player can read vcd's.

Did you ever get an answer to your question? I just ordered Nero 5.5 because I also need to burn VCDs and would like to view them in my DVD player. Based on my limited research, Nero is about the best and only software that can burn VCDs. But, I haven't seen the manual yet...
not really I'm still not sure how to do it but I haven't really had the time to mess with it to much, but if you know how I would love some tips

I should get Nero in a day or two. I've got several video files on my hard drive waiting to be put on VCD, so I'll get to work on them as soon as I can. I'll let you know what I learn.

That does look like a good site! Thanks for the tip!
Burn 74 minutes of video to a cdrom with no hassles ????
Watch this on a dvd or any standard cdrom ???
Using a standard 650mb cdr..............
How you ask,Did someone ask how,,,,,
Ok here ya go No hassle easy great for beginners,,,BUY THE Radeon 64meg DDr Vivo card.It comes with The software that does just what i have stated. No conversion to do,no massive avi files to compress,And if you have any decient burning program just send the saved 74 minute file straight to a cdr.
I have several home movies on cdr and with any basic dvd software any cdrom can watch the movies I have burned,,I also think The windows media player wil allow you to watch them.{This I am unsure of as I havent tried Media player}
As for A dvd player if it is capible of reading VCD watch them on t.v.Most dvd can watch VCD...

AlanSr: Okay, I received my Nero 5.5 the other day. Burning an MPEG-1 file is pretty easy. It's just a drag and drop within the burn Wizard. Here's one trick, you may have to recode the file prior to burning...but, the wizard will tell you if it's necessary.
Hint number two: if you're going to burn MPEG-2 (or the so-called Super Video CD), you'll need the MPEG-2 recode patch from Nero. It'll be available September 21st. The video quality improvement from MPEG-1 to MPEG-2 is considerable, but at an astonishing increase in file size. For example, the same file at MPEG-1 was about 200 MB; at MPEG-2 it was 600 MB.
Finally, Mayan was right...make sure you're DVD player can read MPEG files. Not all of them can; well, not the cheap ones anyway. I think nearly all of the higher-end players can read VCDs and SVCDs.
Thank you all for your tips and helpful suggestions.
What rez do you need to record your videos in?
I seen a thing on vcd helper 352x240....is that right?

For MPEG-1, the 352x240 rez is the maximum. If you want higher resolution, you need to go to the MPEG-2. You can get 720x480, plus, I forgot to mention, the sound quality is much better too.
