Well I have RoadRunner and usually my activity light just used to flash when i was doing some net work. Well now it is always flashing like its constantly on - i can do a fresh bootup, and then my light starts flashing and i get way slower downloads cause all of my bandwidth seems to be taken. i mean its not bad. but slower than it used to be - I ran a virus scan on the entire system - nada blip at all. I ran ad aware to remove all spyware - its gone. I have tried everything but it seems like my acitvity is hig when im not on the net? Any ideas - do i need to scan for a trojan horse or hte Code Red Crap -what is better to use. Norton AV, Internet securities, of personal firewall??

I would try the Code Red patch. Is supposed to only affect servers but you never know. The new strains can submerge themselves into any PC and cause DOS attacks to servers.

I'm sure that Symantec and McAfee have released upates that cover CR. Whether they cover CR4, 5, 6, ad infinitem is a different story. Symantec(Norton) made a standalone AV prog for SirCam, perhaps the now have one for Code Red.

Im on Roadrunner as well and was hiving the same problem and Code Red was to blame but it was on the ISP side. You might want to give them a call

Microsoft has the patch for it. Code Red deals specifically with NT4.0 and the Win2K family...no other OSs are included (unless running IIS).

Just visit Microsoft's site...I'm sure it's in the headlines.

Try zonealarm. You can get it at www.cnet.com
