I'm currently running a dual celeron 300A oc'ed to 450 and it's getting to be about that time to upgrade. I definately want to get another SMP system, and am thinking I should get around 1ghz per CPU to make it worth my while.

Can I still get there by overclocking or do I have to continue to wait for the PIII-1ghz's to come down in price. I've read about the dual Athlon stuff but i'd rather not run two power supplies or pay 400 for one that can eat the wattage.

What's my options?

I like the Abit VP6 and you may get to 1 gig or at least very close with a pair of P3 700's. Don't know if they still have them but pcnut had pretested 700's @ 1 gig in the past.

Hi potatono, wellcome to the Forum,
What kind of Mobo do you have?
Probably a good way to go is an upgrade to 2 Celeron 466, or better, but more depends by your Mobo.

I hope it helps you ;)

I would go with an ABIT VP-6. It's a great board. You can get to a Gig with 700E's and 800EB's. But with the prices of things, just get two Gig's and shoot for 1.2 each. That would be a little screamer of a system.

I'm planning on switching mobos with the upgrade. I wanna keep the old machine half way together to use as a webserver. It's a Shuttle 495(i think, not at home) dual BX board just FYI.

Thanks for the tip on the 700->1ghz oc, i'll start doing the research.

Uhmm, probably you wanna say 649A i440Bx? if right it supports a lot of chip:

Intel Pentium II 233 ~ 450 MHz
Intel Pentium III 450 ~ 600/100 MHz
Intel Celeron 266 ~ 500/66 MHz

but probably with a Bios upgrade you can use also other kind of chip :D
