I currently have a generic 300w psu powering my old amd t-bird system and so far its not causing any trouble..and it seems very stable. Will this work with an amd 2500+ system or would i have to upgrade the psu? i dont plan on doing any serious gaming or overclocking, mostly web surfing and watching tv.

Welcome to the forums!

A reasonably well built 300w from a good manufacturer should have no trouble at all with that system.

I'm running a 2500 barton in my wife's computer with a HEC 300W powersupply. It has worked flawlessly for over a year. This is a good solid powersupply but isn't especially powerful like a fortron.
