I am running an 850 (8.5 x 100) on a VX133 board. Ihave 2 sticks PC133 128MB RAM. The board will support settings upto 166/41Mhz external/PCI. At 1.85V the best I can get it to do is 8.5 x 112/37. Runs SETI 48hrs @ 42C. I really hope to get to the 133/33 x 8.5 setting. How high can I safely go with the Vcore? The board will go to 2.05. I am only air cooling at this point but I don't think heat is the problem yet as it won't even post at this setting when idle @ 25C. Will upping the I/O voltage do any good, seemed to make it worse when I tried it at 1.85 Vcore? Would appreciate any suggestions.
1.95v is the most I will go to using air cooling. When doing this make sure you have a good HSF and that your temps are low, I like mine to be in the 30's under load.

Hi DavidRobinson, wellcome to the forum,
Checking the Cpu database for the voltage used with your chip, I've founded that some guys have used a max of 2.0v, that is exactly the 15% of increase, like the max voltage generally suggested.
I hope it helps you :)

there is a chance your CPU might be maxed out making this the weakest link, if it is not the weakest link then yes VIO settings may help, At this point as was already said i would work on my temps even though it wont post a better HSF may help, i was stuck where i was at for a long time at 168FSB then i put on the Gladiator and was able to post at 173 but run stable with seti at 171, the higher you overclock the more critical temps are so cooling her down a little would not hurt, theres other things that may help though do you have a HSF on your northbridge? you may also want to put a small HS on your clockgenerator as well, if you have a VIA chipset then you will want to disable sideband in your registry. As far as CV goes every CPU even the same MHZ and stepping will react differently towards CV so there is no set voltage that will kill your CPU anything over 2.00 gets a little risky anything over 2.10 and you could be asking for trouble at 2.10 i'm doing a little bit of gambling but so far its paid off, one note if raising CV does not help then you should lower it to where its effective. If your CV settings are new i would run Seti for a week or two burning in and then see if you can gain any stability.

My personal rule on this with air cooling is, no more than a .3v increase over stock.
The chips start getting to hot after that.

Thanks for the suggestions. Seems as if upto 2.0V should be OK so I'll try it and post results. Might take a while to source new Heat Sink but it's fairly obvious from the replys that this is needed.
Outhouse suggested disabling sideband in registry. How exactly do I do this in Win2000? I'm not familiar with registry editing.
Did I mention before that when I run CPU diags in SiSoft Sandra it tells me the CPU is rated at 1123/133 but the CPU itself is marked 100? Does this mean anything?
Again, Thanks All.

About the results of Sisoft Sandra,
well, the rated speed of your chip is 850Mhz @100Mhz of Fsb (8.5x100), but if you've Oced it, Sandra shows you the Speed and Fsb of chip at the moment, not the standard freq., infact 8.5 x 133.3Mhz = 1133Mhz!
Wait a moment!
Sandra say me that my Chip is a 600/67Mhz even if it works@907Mhz/100Mhz, so I'm wrong!
Uhmm, really I don't know, what version are you using?
I'm using Sandra2001te ver2001.5.8.11
