o btw, buy the modem off ebay..if thats the modem u want..there are others though
edit: linksys also makes some...probably nice ones....would be cool if there was a modem+router in 1...hmmm
they have some, but ok then, i cant spend more than like 40 on it, whats a good one to look for on ebay....?
thats just gey how isp's charge for renting modems. they use gimmicks like we'll give you 5 bucks off our regular 49 price if you sign a one year contract, then later you find out you need to 'rent' and price goes back to 49. glad i never had to go through this but i know plenty of people that have. enough ranting. i've been using motorola surfboard cable modems for the last 4 years. it has adapted to all the speed changes that my isp has gone through from when the isp first came out speeds were 4mbit then few years later down to 2mbit, now this year back to 3mbit. i believe the modem can handle up to 10mbit, not quite sure but i've had the same one for 4 years and absolutely love it.

Whatever you do don't get a modem from Linksys. I have one of their cable modems and it disconnects all the time, especially when I use BitTorrent or try to view a page with images from a bunch of different servers. They have a fix for it but only the cable company can install it on your modem which screws people who have cable companies that don't use the particular model I have (which happens to be the situation I'm in). IMHO the only cable modem worth getting is the Motorola SurfBoard. It's praised by everyone who has one and is one of the fastest out there.
yeah im bidding on sb4100 and 5100 series,,, seem the same, trtying to get one for 25 after shipping.
are they the same thing i think one is just newer then the other one i am also looking to get a new cable modem.
