right now my T-Bird 1000 is nestled under a thermal take chrome orb. but i'm thinking about putting on a thermal take volcano II. is it worth it? if anybody has the volcano II, i'm wondering how does it perform and is it difficult to put it on? Is the change worth it?

Ditch the orb at all costs. The Volcano II has good reviews if I remember correctly, but I've been reading up on Thermaltake lately.
Apparently Thermaltake does not make any of their heatsinks. There are several companies involved here, Titan Computer, Thermaltake and Huey Shyang. This was brought to light last year when some "fake" Thermaltake orbs were bought. These "fake" ones which had the Huey Shyang label on the clip instead of Thermaltake, had a tendancy to have the fans literally fly off or burn up, because little lubricant was used when it was assembled. The site that did this investigation, which is in all Russian, later apologized as they found out, Huey Shyang is Thermaltake's manufacturer, but finding this out, also brought to light that Thermaltake only patents and ships Huey Shyang's products under the Thermaltake name. Titan Computer is occasionally mentioned throughout the apology article, but it never lists what Titan actually does. Here are some pics:

I would go pick up a Swiftech MC462-A Rev1 or Thermalright SK-6, both tested very well and earned top spots on ClubOC's Top Ten HSF list.

check out the reviews at oc.com of various heatsinks including the volcano II. We are one of the few sites that do "proper" heatsink testing in that we accurately measure CPU temps. The ORb is sub par, and the Volcano II is par. Glaciator, SK-6 with delta, and 462-A are the top three.
The only thing orbs "all orbs" are good for is video cards.
but they do make awesome coolers for V cards:)
please don't take offence if your an orb lover:)

Dang, my friend shouldn't have traded off his chrome orb for a discount on a Taisol CGK. Might have made a real eye-catching paperweight....
