View Full Version : Modding my CAK38 for better surface area?

I've been rather attatched to my new Dremel, lately, and while looking around for things to modify, my CAK38 caught my eye...hmm, how about I cut the fins up, lengthwise and spread them out? That would drastically improve surface area, and by spacing the pins out give it greater area to dissipate heat into...

Great idea! Make you take precautions to avoid deforming the base of your CAK38. You might want to build a duct for the fan. You won't really increase surface area (the surface area of the metal removed will be the same as the metal remaining and folding it won't increase it) but what you are actually doing is that you are making it easier for air to pass between the fins -a plus.

hmm, yeah, i guess you're right, I don't need to use my dremel, then :( :p But I will spread them out, good call on watching for deforming the base!!
