View Full Version : will kyro2 drivers get better?
I have a hercules 4500 kryro2 with non tv out. Tbird@950 and I would like to know if the drivers are going to get better or if I can just expect keeping the drivers stable in programs. Like every other company other then nvidia. If nvidia can release the orig detonator and they were like 30% faster. Since then they have released a pailfull each one getting better and the det4's are going to be a big improvement again. I really hope hercules could put out some drivers that help by even 10-20%

After downloading the win9x 8.xx beta that was leaked in the internet, here's what i found:
I found that this beta is quite nice, it gives me better picture/graphics quality in windows and HL, CT, and Quake 3. The image is also sharper than before. The smoke grenade in CT won't slow your computer like before. Also you can use the demo in 3DM2K1 without installing the dx8.1 beta. It helps the score in both game 1 and game 2 but on game 3 on high details it suffers a lot. Same thing with fillrate multitexturing my score was 60 below normal. You can also benchmark with FSAA 4 samples.
They better fix the fillrate multitexturing coz it is quite low. But overall i find it pretty stable and quite coming a long nicely. It gives me a reason to be more exited about the final version = )
Every new CPU or GFX product has some degree of new hardware. What Nvidia does most of the time with the new detonators is to optimize and create new code for the new CPUs, as well as optimize the code for their own new hardware.
GF3 was released with the old detonator. The new detonator was optimized for the crowbar tech., so we saw good increases in performance for GF3. GF2(and GF1) gained some speed from the code optimizations for the new CPUs and MB chipsets (DDR for exmpl.).
So I dont see why others couldnt do that. PowerVR is still in progress of optimizing the drivers for the current hardware. I bet they are working on all fronts (Kyro, CPU and chipset optmizations) to bring us better performance.

As long as they sell the cards, they'll keep updating the drivers.
Even afterwards, there may be some third-party drivers available.
I sure hope they do optimize the drivers soon. Isn't direct x 8.1 supposed to add something to the card or I guess I should say allow something in hardware to be utilized. I've seen beta versions of directx 8.1 but I have also heard ppl in forums saying it sucks so should I download it. Pls reaspond quickly if anyone knows how kryro2 and 8.1 like each other I'll download it tonight.
