Check out this test of the Morgan - keep in mind this test was done on a KT7A with an old BIOS that did not recognize the processor as SSE capable - so any differences are attributed directly to hardware prefetch. They tested it against a bevy of processors and the Morgan 1 GHz with PC133 outperformed even TBird 1 GHz with DDR in some tests!!

I think I am gonna go nuts right now!!!

(Credit the frontpage guys for linking this, I posted it for those of you who come right here and don't read the front page content)

I am even more excited about the possibilities of dual Morgans right now. Does anyone know if the Tyan Tiger dual socket A board has overclocking tweaks (i.e. can it change multipliers?) If not I'll just order up a couple of those nifty Golden sockets from Plycon.

There's always a "but." ATM, very few mainboards run the Morgan core properly. In the comparisons I've seen, the 1 Gig T-Birds(and they are less expensive) outperform the 1 Gig Morgan-cored Duron.
As AMD drops introductory prices quickly, the new 1 Gig Morgan Duron will soon cost "what it should."

I think the real news here is that it looks like Palomino-cored T-Birds can't be very far away. The 1 Gig Morgan Duron whips the cr*p out of even a 1.3 Gig Celeron. I think the present 1.4 Gig T-Bird is on par with a 1.7 Gig P4. The new less power hungry and less hot running Palomino-cored T-Birds will surely ramp up to 1.7 Gigs quickly--thereby performing at parity with 2 Gig P4's.

If only more of the PC buying public understood that Clock Speed is a marketing tool. Yeah, right!

I'm not so sure about the Palomino now that I have one. It doesn't run cooler, and it won't overclock past 1400 with a water block on it. It is a good bit faster clock for clock than the thunderbird core, but it looks like they've got some work to do before it's going to get any faster.
