I have a AMD 1.4 and glaciator. How much do I put on. I cleaned it with etho alchohol and then rubbed it on the chip and HS with a baggie over my finger and then rubbed it off. How much do I actually apply now? What if it goops off the chip? I don't want to short out this puppy.

First thing is to read the instructions in the link above.

Basically you want as thin and even a layer as possible. Try putting a dab on a plastic baggy instead of right on the core. Then take whatever your using to apply it (credit card, buissiness card, etc.) and scoop up a small amount along the edge. Then just drag whatever your using (I recommend a buisiness card) across teh top of the core. keep dragging it over until you have a smooth, even, thin layer on the core. The instructions say as thin as a piece of paper, that's really hard, just get it as close to that thin as possible and the eccess will squirsh out. Wathc out you don't trap any tiny air bubbles in it either. Try not to get any on the ceramic portion of the chip or the bridges.

I have a question. I'm new at this building a computer thing, so I have a few concerns.
I read that arctic silver II is the best thermal paste to use.
Question is, there is no site that I've seen that explained exactly how to apply it.
Do I apply it to the heatsink or the processor?
If On the heatsink, do I apply it to just the center where the die will touch, or to the entire surface?
If on the processor, do I just cover the die or the entire processor with a thin layer?

I have other questions, but this is my first major concern at the moment.

Thanks,
PhatKirby

The link above on this thread answers all of those questions.

The last I was told, put a thin layer on the chip itself, but don't
put any on the h/s.

one tube or two if you want it extra cool! LMAO

u should spread out a bit smaller than a bb to cover the core. I use a razor. you should be able to read the stepping through the AS2.

I used a toothpick to spread it on the core and it worked perfectly with no mess at all!
