I was applying arctic silver on my AMD core before I inserted it into the socket before I attached the heat sink. Okay, so far so good. Well, instead of putting on something else then applying it to the core i got lazy and directly applied it via the tube. Guess what happened??!?! yep, it blew all over the F***ing chip!!! I know, i'm and idiot, so please don't harrass me. I tried cleaning it off the best I could with an alcohol swab up there is still some left, right above the core, if you were looking at it dead on so you could read the writing. Anywayz, i just want to know if the chip is still any good and if it will work. im still waiting for my hard drive to come in so i can't test my computer yet...damn im an idiot. Please reply ASAP:mad:
Your cpu is still ok. Its very hard to get every spec of the as2 off but as long as you cleaned of as much excess as possible it will be ok.
speed_freak - you can breathe easy b/c as2 was designed to conduct heat, not electricity. like placid said, just clean it off as good as you can and go on -- just don't chip the core when you put the hsf on [like i did to my poor 1.33 tbird :-(]
Artic silver will conduct electricity, so you need to get all of it off the top of the chip, especiall the L bridges. Mineral spirits does the best job - use an old toothbrush if you can, then clean the mineral spirits off with 90% rubbing alcohol. Use a lint free cloth to finish up.

I did the samething. I was really happy that i didn't burp the artic silver onto the motherboard.
Ended up removing the chip and cleaning it with isoprop Alcohol and a pencil erasor. Carefully mind you.
Nail polish remover with aceton is good as well.
You can visit the artic silver web site, they have docs on how to clean up an artic silver disaster.
:)
sorry, i was ded wrong.
From Arcticsilver.com:
Application Instructions
1. Even though Arctic Silver II is specifically engineered for high electrical resistance, you should keep the compound away from processor, memory, and motherboard traces and pins. There is a possibility that dust or metal particles and/or shavings carried by the airflow inside the computer case could contaminate the compound and increase its electrical conductivity.

Whew!! Man do I feel better! It's also good to know im not the only one who bupred AS2 all over my chip heheheh. Yeah, luckily it just splattered above the core and not on L1 bridge or anything like that (sigh of releif). Hey thanx alot for the input. BTW, i love this AP online class my school is doing, its such a joke, they say its hard, but hey, i get to tinker with my comp more. :D :D Again, thanx guyz.
