"Hercules 3D Prophet II MX OverClocking & Cooling Questions"

I have A Hercules 3D Prophet II MX 32MB video card.
I'm building A new PC and its not installed yet and this is the first PC I have ever built. I plan on cooling it with 2 Antec Cyclone Blowers and A System Bracket Fan that has 2 80mm EverCool ball bearing fans. One of the Antec Cyclone Blowers will be upside down above the card sucking out the heat from the top of the card. One of the Antec Cyclone Blowers will of corse be below the card sucking out the heat from the bottom. The System Bracket Fan that has 2 80mm EverCool ball bearing fans will be blowing on the card from the side. I am hoping The 2 Antec Cyclone Blowers and the System Bracket Fan will do A good job cooling the card from every side but I've heard the Antec Cyclone Blowers will give me A problem upside down. (something about the inside parts breaking) Does anyone know if this is true?
Will my idea work to cool the card? I'm also wondering about other ways to speed this card up I've heard of lapping the heat sink and putting it back on with A with silver paste.
what is lapping? what is the best way to take off the heat sink? what is the best glue/paste to put the heat sink back on with?
I have also heard of ram sinks and cutting A old heat sink to make them. Would A Antec socket 7 blue heat sink work if it was cut? (if so) How to I cut it? (and) What is the best glue/paste to use to put the heat sinks on with? (if not) What is the best ram sinks to get? I have also heard of people using ram somehow to speed up A agp slot making some ram used only for the agp slot.
Has anyone heard of this? (and) does it work? I also know that updated drivers are better so what would be the best drivers for this card?

I'm sorry for asking so many questions, I just kind of new to this.
If anyone any other tips or anything on getting speed out of A video card or agp slot please feel free to add your info.

:) THANK YOU, Spencer :)

...*takes deep breath* Okay..here we go:

Sounds like you have a very nice cooling setup in the works that should keep the card very cool. You might also consider adding a smaller fan directly attached to the heatsink on the Prophet 2MX which does not have one (i have the same card). The big fans will bring air to the small fan and your card will be happy! :)

As far as the fans not working upside down..haven't heard that. they should..at least for a while. I have a fan on every video card I have and they all run upside down...for months...so far! :)

Lapping the heatsink involves removing the two small plastic pins that you can see holding the heatsink onto the GPU. To lap, you use very fine sand paper, in continuously smaller grit sizes, to smooth out the base of the heat sink and thereby creating a better contact between HS and GPU. I opted not to do this w/ my card..I'll explain why later.

HS paste such as Arctic Silver 2 is a good idea, remove the HS, clean the HS and GPU, put AS2 on and reinstall the heat sink. I opted to do this and I haven't measured temps but I'm pretty sure it helps...a lot!

RamSinks: Yeah, you can make 'em or you can buy 'em. To cut you'd have to have a tool like a dremel or special cutting saw. I would be careful if your going to attempt to do this. You can check the many websites like 2CoolTek (http://www.2cooltek.com/) or CoolerGuys (http://www.coolerguys.com/) to see some ramsink pricing..there pretty cheap!

AGP: Not sure what you mean here but older cards used physical memory and newer NForce mobos from NVidia use board memory.

The key w/ your card is to get the memory as high as possible but stable. The design of the card creates a memory bottleneck so speeding up that memory really counts. I was able to run my memory stable at around 190. GPU isn't as important but you can usually get 'em up around 190-200MHz depending on cooling. Be careful, don't overdo it. Good luck!!

Well, I have a 64meg Prophet II MX, and I added an old P166 HSF onto the stock heatsink. Plus blowing an 80mm fan onto the card, means I can now clock it to 195/390 stable....

WillysNut, A smaller fan won't fit between the slot fan and the heat sink on the video card and I can't move it down A slot since they will all be full.

reddeathdrinker, 195/390 is just A type-o, right?
Do you mean 195/190?

I'm thinking of getting A Memory Cooling Kit from Thermaltake, from my understanding I could buy A kit and use it to cool my sdram and video ram. Does anyone have A real pic of the ram sinks for the video card? I'm wondering how they would fit on my card. could I get 2 kits and use the other ram sinks to cool my south bridge? Can I take the greenie off the north bridge and use A socket 7 blue heat sink on it?
(one last question) Can I buy just the blue color heat sinks anywhere? I just want them for looks so everything will be blue and I can get yellow round IDE cables. I think that would look cool.

THANK YOU, Spencer

I use an old 486 HS with Doublesided thermal tape from here
