Does anyone know what kind of HSF this is. I found it on an electronics surplus site. They call it a 12VDC fan with attached aluminium heat sink. They also say that it mounts with four post 2"x2 1/2". Is that the same size as the AMD motherboard mounting holes?

I did search for the fan and the only thing that came up was this

(incidently they also have that HSF for $22.50)

I know this is an Orb which generally suck. But I have never seen an Orb that mounts to the motherboard befor. That and it looks cool.

That fan is for your northbridge or your GPU. It's not a CPU a HSF.

I think it is a little big for a GPU or a northbridge.

If those screws are centered 2" x 2 1/2" that would make the base about 2 1/2" x 3". That would be closer to a CPU cooler. My MC462-A is 3"x3"

Does anyone know if the AMD mounting holes are center the same as those (I really don't want to take off my HSF just to measure)?

Panasonic search turned up zip, but I found it for you cheaper than what you found ;)

Staz,

I believe that is an hp UNIX workstation CPU cooler. I have one of the "Panaflo Orbs" (the big solver one shown in the article you mentioned) that I took off an hp9000 series workstation and it is a similar design. The AMD spec on the mobo holes is 1.423x2.602 as far as I can read from their spec sheet. The spec sheet is article number 23794. I got it as a pdf if you want me to email it to you (1.16 MB). I tried to figure out how to mount my "Panaflo Orb" and it takes a bit of thinking because it's pretty huge. All Electronics used to have them to. I actually have replaced the fan in mine with a YS Tech and a Delta but I am water cooling now anyway. I plan on parting out an hp at work next year I may get another "Panaflo Orb" then. They work really well, it felt cold to the touch in me tests even with the standard fan (about 20cfm as I recall). Drop me a line if you have any more questions about it owen.stevens@pseg.com. I have some spare time at work usually.

Thnx for all the good info Owenator.

I had read that tech dock also but was having a hard time decifering it. I finally too the fan off of my heatsink and measured the screwheads. That's exactly what hole are centered (1.4"x2.6").

I was just thinking that if I ever did a case mode with a window in it that would look really cool covering the cpu. Kind of hard to mount though.

I think I ever do order from them, I'll tack on that HSF just to play with it.

Thnx Again
