I upgraded my Cely 566@850 to a 1GHZ. Ever since, I get this strange error message:

"BIOS update incorrect. CPUID=0000068a,.Update not loaded"

See pic below. The machine will still boot, but the error message is ****ing me off. Plus I do get some mysterious lockups.

My system is composed of:

1GHZ Intel Pentium III Socket 370 CPU
Asus S370-DL adaptor
Asus P3V4X mobo Slot 1

...and yes, I have flashed the mobo with the latest bios.

Any ideas?

Looks like bios didn't like running that CPU at a gig you should flash your bios and that might take care of it as long as you haven't done massive dammage to it

hmmmm, it looks to me like your BIOS update did not take. CPUID is basically a pin signal that tells the mobo what kind of CPU it is, AFAIK. Try the old Chip, if you get the same message I am wrong. If you don't, sounds like the BIOS doesn't correctly recognize yer chip. Will it boot if you CLR CMOS and let the board detect the chip type, etc?

Could just be a programmer put in the wrong CPUID when they wrote the BIOS. It happens sometimes, that's one reason why they update them. Might actually want to flash an OLDER BIOS, see if that helps.

That's all I can think of.

Simple error - the bios doesn't recognize the stepping. Doesn't mean something has been damaged. Look for a bios update that adds microcode support for the new stepping.

Try to flash your bios to a tweaked bios!!!!!

Not sure how to "CLR CMOS", but I tried turning off the comp and pulling the mobo battery. Figured that should clear the ROM settings. Didn't work, same error message.

Tried flashing the bios with version 1005 from the Asus site. This is the same rev I flashed last year, but tried it anyway. Didn't work, same error message.

Is there a third party bios I can try? What is a "tweaked bios" and where would I find such a thing?

Any other suggestions!?!?!?

I've used at least 8 of these boards this year and never had a problem with them. In the pic you included it shows there is no SDRAM in the 1st slot to which i've always believed that should be filled 1st.

Clearing the CMOS will wipe any settings you have in your bios, and as far as pulling the batter from the mobo, it could take days for the juice to run down, what I find works best its hooking a multimeter to the batter contacts, taking a reading and slowly draining it down to the lowest level possible... keep in mind of course you should unplug the compute from the wall in the first place :)

And as far as the error message goes, sounds like a lack of micro code in the bios, it is simply not reconizing the new cdo stepping IMO, if your mobo manufacture does not have an update for your board with this new mirco code, you can get the "tweaked" bios everyone is talking about off the net most likely, I'd check out www.Tweakfiles.com

Hope I've helped!
