As many of you know, I run the tips team. I have TONS of Windows tips and have some more coming soon, but I have zilch as far as Linux and the other alternative Os'es go. If you have any good ones(more on the basic side and other "cool" stuff for now) please send them to dunno260@lycos.com. Thanks a bunch.

you don't want to see linux tips? BUMP!
Well, maybe somebody could put together something from my Linux Commands Thread (http://forums.overclockers.ws/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=30983) ....something like that would be useful for extreme newbies like myself....I spent hours using linux today & can only reflect on how little I know about it....
One thing I like to do is install all the gui's even if you only plan to use kde. There is a lot of software that will not install/compile unless you have gnome libs on your system. I like the fact that I can run apps designed for a specific gui while running another. You really loose a lot of flexability otherwise.
Another big improvement in speed can be made by turning on UDMA. Most distros now have a gui util where you can do this now instead of at the command line.
Gameing in linux has come a long way check out http://www.lokigames.com and get a GeeForce card for your linux box. NVidia's linux drivers are very very good and with this combo many people who hesitate to install linux because of games may not have that good a reason not to any more.
Over time as I think of some good tips I will post. I think it is a very good idea to have a linux tip's page as even us long time linux users still have a lot to learn, there is just so much to this OS that you can really never be a know-it-all.

it is not just linux tips. It will operate as a tip of the day type thing(I hope). I am just sorely missing linux tips.
Ok I though it was just Linux tips.
There is only one non-linux tip needed.......reformat and install linux instead of your current OS hehehe :)
Actually I really still use windows quite a bit mostly w2k because it is the only one that is stable, also xp on a test box.
If we can compile a bunch of linux tips I can add a section to my web site for it. I always like doing what I can to promote Linux and make converts out of Windows freaks!
