DSL Modem Problem

I am thinking the heat (or me) damaged something in the modem or ethernet cords, but I don't know. Any ideas on how I could get this working again?

Did something happen before it stopped working?

Assuming you haven't, do a loopback ping to insure your NIC is working ( ping 127.0.0.1) If that is sucessful, I'd move on to the cabling, and then the modem itself.
