I have an epox 8k7a+ mobo with a 1.4 thunderbird chip and a cooler master cpu fan (came with the chip). Yet when i look in bios my computer is def overheating. Temp's get up to over 150 degrees! So basically my computer goes nuts, restarting on its on, giving me errors for very simple tasks (that i guess are just too much of a toll on the cpu). I am not even running my 1.4 at that speed, i'm running it at about 1 ghz and that is not helping either.

What is the problem with this system? Any help would be greatly appreciated! If you could email me at Gokul.R@cmu.edu that would be great.

You need to check the fan on the heatsink to make sure it works, then remove the heatsink and remount it. If not the fan the heatsink must not be making good contact with the cpu.

What is a good cpu temperature? I know 140 is too high since that's the temp my mobo would shut down the computer.. but what is normal?

Around 55c with that cpu/heatsink. It can vary depending on room temp, case airflow.

i am running my 1.2GHz @41C idle and 46max which i think is a pretty good temp for a CAK38 wif A/S 2
putting some electrical tape between ur Heatsink and the Fan really helps a bit but u'll have to put several layers
it lowered my temp by 2C-3C
