EPOX-4PCA3-P 128.28 1617.62 Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz - Northwood

According to my stats, BOINC seems to have gotten more credits from my Northwood CPU's. Either they like Northwoods better, or high FSB's.

My worst Northwood is doing better than my best prescott by a nice margin.

hmmm thats interesting.......

Mictlan is running his laptop 24/7 (centrino 1,5 ghz with 1 MB L2) but my Barton does better...........

I noticed the same thing. My 2.8E's RAC has been floating around 100,while my 2.4C's has been hovering around 140.

You are all making good observations, but I really must ask whether you have all taken into consideration what part "luck of the draw" has played in this.

By that I mean, if we had access to the results pages so that we could actually count up how many WUs each machine has completed rather than how many "credits" a machine has, I think we would have a much better indicator of what processor is capable of what.

Look at it this way, if I have one machine that completes 20 WUs and I receive "credits" for 12 of them and at the same moment in time I have another machine which during the same period completed 50 WUs but has only received "credits" for 10 of them, which machine has been productive and which machine has been lucky.

Any Thoughts?

Yep like SkyHook said. A few weeks ago my A64 3200+ was doing the best of all my machines. Now it's my G5, with my laptop close behind, and my prescott is 3rd.

Hmm,, now I don't know if I should buy a 2.4C for a 2.8E for my next cruncher.

I have everything ready, 430 Watt Antec PSU, case, complete water cooling system etc. Just gonna get a Max3 and debating on CPU.

Only comparison I can make is between a Palomino and a Willamette. The XP1800 blows my P4 1.8 out of the water by about an hour on average :D

I really didn't mean to bring something up to make your life and choice more difficult, and hopefully you see where I'm coming from. I just don't see where we can use this new "credit" system, at least until we have had quite a bit of time to learn what it is or isn't telling us, in the same way we used the old system.

Now that is a comparitive factor I'm still willing to hang my hat on! Even with the fluctuation in computation time caused by differences in AR, time differences between different machines made themselves pretty evident in short order.

Nah, don't worry about it. I was thinking 2.4C anyway since it's cheaper than a 2.8E and I can get Hynix D43's for super cheap as well.

did someone say cheap? I remember seeing a 2.8e in the classifieds for $100.
