I've been trying to install win me and 98 and I get the same error each time. dibeng.dll is causing an illegal operation in explorer.exe I searched support.microsoft.com and it said it was cuz mI was using the wrong display adapter, but I never got to pick one. It crashes as soon as I boot, even in safe mode, so how am I supposed to fix this? It does work when I plug my hard drive into a different comp, but they're both geforce cards, ones an MX the other is a GTS.

It's on an abit kt7a-raid mobo with the latest bios. Any ideas on what I should do?

If you are installing on a machine which is overclocked, try reducing the speed back to default as this sometimes helps. The graphic disply problems may be due to an un-natural agp speed

Perhaps removing the driver in safe mode and rebooting to see if Windows detects the correct driver may be worth attempting.

Windows Help.NET displays This (http://www.infinisource.com/windows98/troub-343.shtml) information displayed below when searched for your problem

General Protection Fault in Module Dibeng.dll
When running Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, Internet Explorer 4.x, 5, you may receive a random General Protection Fault (GPF) which looks like:

<Program Name> caused a general protection fault in module DIBENG.DLL.

where <Program Name> is the name of the program where the error occurred.

This error can occur if an incompatible display driver is installed on the computer. To resolve this error, try updating your display driver by contacting the manufacturer of your video adapter.

To work around this error:

Select Start > Settings > Control Panel, and then double-click Display
Select the Settings tab, click the Advanced button, select the Adapter tab and click the Change button
Click Next, select Display a list of all the drivers in a specific location, so you can select the driver you want, and then click Next
Select Show All Devices, and then select (Standard Display Types) in the Manufacturers box
In the Models box, click Standard Display Adapter (VGA), click OK, and then click Next
Click Next (2 times), and then click Finish
Click Close (2 times), and then click Yes to restart your computer
