hi,
I know this has probably been asked a lot of times, but i'm still asking it :)
I am planing to install win2000 on my win98 machine but on a separate partition, now will win98 recognize my win200, and ask me during their load what do i want to boot, or is there any specialised program for this??
and btw did anyone here after making a dual boot system got some problems in one of the systems or they worked perfectly together??
oh, and if i leave all partitions FAT32 will Win98 and Win2000 be able to read all of them(there are 4 partitions of 1 drive + 1 backup drive)

thx,

If win98 is installed boot from the win2k cd install win2k to another partition. after instalation when it reboots the final time both os's will show up in a menu at boot time. If all partitions are fat32 both os's will read and write them. After the install when the computer boots it will show both win98 and win2k in a menu if you make no choice it will default load win2k, you have to pick win98 for it to load.

you can even customize which OS will be the default on boot...

to save disk space, you can install Win2k on the same partition where your Win98 is... so, the programs already installed in 98 will be recognized by win2k if you install them on the latter...

well i don't have problems with saving space. but that sharing program thing interests me...
if i install them on a diffetent partition, do i have to reinstall the application on win200 (like ACD See) or can i just drag a shortcut from the win200 partition?? because i would like to install all the software on Win98, and use them occasionally in win 2000
is that possibile?

basically, you have to install again all programs from your win98. And if your win2k is on a different partition, win2k will have its own program files folder, not unlike when you are installing on the same partition as that of win98 where they share the Program files folder...

If you want to use fat32 for the 2k system you're defeating the purpose of installing it. You may as well just use 98 if thats the case. A huge part of 2k's stability comes from its file system.
