Both are good chipsets... but I think in the end, SiS 735 will probably be the better chipset. AMD doesn't want to be in the chipset business - they want to fab processors. AMD started producing 760 series chipsets last fall to push DDR. AMD thoroughly believes in the merits of pairing an Athlon with DDR and wanted to control their own destiny as far as getting DDR socket A boards out on the market. Since the release of KT266, ALi Magik1 and SiS 735 (and anticipated release of nForce), there are more than enough DDR chipsets and makers to support the DDR platform w/o AMD's involvement. SiS is going to be releasing updated BIOSes and optimized drivers more frequently than AMD so you're looking at better support for SiS and Via boards in the near future. Currently, though, the AMD 760 and Via KT266 are tied for performance kings, though. This scene will become a little clearer once SiS 735 boards are more readily available and production nForce boards start hitting the reviewer circuit.

while the sis735 may be a tad better, ask him to show you a board that will do a fsb of 166 with a 1/5 pci divider and run stable.
I haven't seen any sis 735 boards being able to do that, anyone? hmmm?
the 8k7a has been in my opion the best athlon ddr board for awhile, and untill nforce comes out (which seems now to be somthing like october) it will remain the best board. The sis 735 might edge it out in performance at 133fsb but the 8k7a will whoop its a** at 166fsb, while the sis735 won't even get that high. by the way andy got his board to do 204fsb I beleive, then the 1/6 divider kicks in at 200mhz.

It is true that the SiS chipset boards will far well with any other DDR mobo under normal circumstances - but not in the overclockers arena. The Epox 8K7A mobo is an overclockers dream. Right now I have mine running at 169x9 - with Seti@home 24/7. It is rock solid - and I can probably get a little more out of it.
Ask your friend to fire his SiS board up to 169fsb.

what kind of ram can run that high fsb speeds?

My Epox board is using Corsair PC2400. Mushkin PC2400 is also a great overclocking memory. The Corsair, I have seen, can get up to about 175fsb - Mushkin, also in the 170's.

The only reason the SiS 735 boards can't be overclocked like an AMD chipset can is that there are no boards currently available that have adjustable voltages for the CPU core. The only one really readilly available is the ECS K7S5A. It has a few FSB settings, but not enough to be useful. Also, there are no multiplier controls. These, I'd imagine, will be incorporated by individual motherboard manufacturers as they get ahold of the 735 chipsets.
I've seen only pretty good things about the 735 - it's fast, stable, and really cheap - the aforementioned board is available at a few places online for $65 to $75. Pair that with a cheap Duron and you have an absolutely unbeatable budget system, unless someone digs up some real flaws in the chipset itself.
The K7S5A supports both DDR and SDR - it has 2 slots for each. SDR performance in many benchmarked applications (sysmark, QII, etc...you know the hardware reviewers' routine) is about equivalent to that of the KT133A. The DDR performance is a normally a little higher than the AMD 761 and VIA KT266, and worlds better than the ALi Magik 1.
I'm waiting for word and availability of Gigabyte's GA-7SRH board and Asus's A7S266. Hopefully, Abit will complete an array of 735 boards that will let us all know how good of a chipset this really is.
Which epox board is the one with the problems with the +5v? Is it just one model or do they all have that problem?

Its not a "problem" its just they require more juice so a bette power supply is recommended, oh and the 8k7a(+)

well if your running the duron in you sig a good quilty 300w would do and I mean amd approved. but I think maybe a generick 350w or 400w would also be fine. I saw a generic 400 watter on pricewatch for 25 $ I saw someone in their sig running the psu so it can't be all that bad, I mean 25 bucks is nothing for 400w.
