hi,

i'm currently dual booting win98se and winxp, but something
really weirded happened to win98se. it's "find" and also its
"new folder" function went missing after installing nvidia's
latest official win9x drivers? :(

now i can't make "new folder" and the only way "find" would
show up is to right click root of a drive in windoze explorer
but not any other ways :( i remember installing win9x drivers
from epox CD it was working fine, dunno wtf went wrong...

i think it maybe some kind of shell/context menu thing that
could be fixed with some registry editing, but i'm not sure
how to do it... :( does anybody know how? thanks

This will restore the "New" command...

REGEDIT4

;This Registry file corrects the problem described in MS KB Article Q180257
;"New Command Missing in Windows Explorer"
;Please read the article first, and back up the Registry before applying.

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\New]
@="{D969A300-E7FF-11d0-A93B-00A0C90F2719}"

New Command Missing in Windows Explorer

Copy the contents above (between the hash lines), and paste it into Notepad. Save the file with a *.reg extension, right click the newly created registry file and select "Merge". There shouldn't be a space between the N and the T in ContextMenuHandlers...I'm not sure why it formatted that way. Just correct the error in Notepad before merging it into the registry.

AFA the "Find" function...

Find-Related Commands Missing From Menus and Tools
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q222/0/29.asp

Use the Registry Editor to verify that the registry key listed below has the value listed, and if needed, edit the value to match the value listed...Start | Run | Type regedit, and click OK.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | Software | Microsoft | Windows | CurrentVersion | explorer | FindExtensions | ShellFind

This registry key should contain the following value and value data:

Value: Default
Value data: {61E218E0-65D3-101B-9F08-061CEAC3D50D}

Note that the "Find" command may also be missing from the Start menu if policy restrictions are in effect for the local user's Start menu.

hey redduc900 thanks :)

had problems making the reg file,so made the missing key and
and put the value in regedit to get the "new" working again :)

But the "find" function is still missing when right click a folder? :(
in regedit, the "find" key is there with the same value and its
also there in the start menu but its not there when right click
the start button or folders?

maybe something else is also screwed up,maybe its one of the
M$ win98se updates,its fricking odd,first time this ever happened.

Check under the following Key...

HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Software | Microsoft | Windows | CurrentVersion | Policies | Explorer

Check in the RH pane for a Binary Name of NoFind, and check to make sure the Value Data is 00 00 00 00.

didn't have that key at all,but created that key with same value,
And that didn't work either :(

hi,

i install TweakUI "after" discovering thses problems,
was hoping TweakUI can fix it,but nope :(

do you think TweakUI or PowerToys could fix it?
thanks

Well, I was thinking that you might have had TweakUI installed...and possibly changed a setting which was causing the problem with the Find function.
