Has anyone had any compatability problems with Thunderbird Processors and SoundBlaster Live cards?
How about Geforce2 Pro Video cards?
No problems with the tbird and sb live.
Problems with some via chipsets and sb live yes.

ok, then I shouldn't have problems. I'm getting a Abit KG7 RAID with the AMD 760 chipset. No problems there right?

the problems in the 686B southbridge so the KG7 will still have the problem. Why not just get a better Santa Cruz? viahardware migh be able to shed some light on teh problem.
SAL is on the button... the 760 uses the 686b southbridge, and that's what had the issues with the live!. here's (http://www.viahardware.com/686bfaq.shtm) a link to via's how-to-fix-it page for this problem.

Actually, i think the chipset is actually AMD761 on the board I was looking at. Does the 761 still have that problem? I don't want to have to get a new sound card, cuz I like my soundblaster live.
The problem with the 686b south bridge is it has problems with the communication to the via northbridge.
So far no one has complained about problems with the 760 northbridge 686b south bridge combo and sb live.

Thanks for the help. Now here's a question off the topic.. How do increase the number of stars under your name? I'm a junior member, while others are members, senior members, etc. how does that work?

Works by the number of posts, see the stars, thats how you can also tell.
the official via statement on the issue is unclear, imho. it says the probs are from an incorrect bios setting pertaining to the northbridge, but then goes on about how "if you have a 686b southbridge" warra warra warra... afaik it's any board with a 686b southbridge, so that includes the amd760- and amd761-based boards.
as for stars and senior members and what not.. the colour of your stars changes with your member status.. yellow - members, blue- senior members, green - mods, red - admins. the number changes with how many posts you have. how you get to become a senior is up to a whole bunch of things.. how long you've been here (lots of us seniors were even seniors in the ooooooooooold forums... that's how long we've been here... sign of a mis-spent youth?! lol ;) ), and a whole list of criteria dan has. he and joe basically select seniors and appoint mods.
I have the Asus A7V133 with the chipset from VIA, the KT133A, 686B southbridge , and a sound blaster live 5.1 and I havenīt any problem with my system. It works well!! rock stable!!

Make sure you have the latest VIA 4 in 1 drivers and bios. I was having problems with my S.B Live! 5.1 and A7M266 until I flashed my bios and did some reassigning of IRQ's. Good luck ;)

Oh yes, make sure you reserve IRQ5 manually in the BIOS for Legacy devices :) You'll love me for that one :)

Hi, everybody.
I am have a problem with the SBLive 5.1 and the KG7-RAID.
There are reports that the SC and RAID controller on board share the same IRQ. This is true. When copy files from disk to disk and playing music or just by moving the mouse I receive a lovelly stutter rrrright ssssspppppeaker (no spelling mistake)
Try installing a piece of software while playing an mp3 you might as well be running a 486-DX2 50.!!!!!
I have read on Paul's website HERE (http://www.viahardware.com/faq/kg7kr7/sound.htm#SB51) that there is a problem and it goes on to explain how to fix it. The problem is, the KG7 will not allow you to set an IRQ to Legacy, just disapled, if you disable then the IRQ is STILL used. I am having no luck and would appreciate any help.
ABIT KG7-RAID
Athlon 1.4GHz

My friend had the same problem. He had the ASUS A7V mobo and a sb live. It didn't work either. He solved the problem by breaking ( acidently ) the cpu heatsink clip pin, which gave him the perfect reason to get a new mobo. He let me have a go at glueing the clip pinback on. Didn't do a bad job at it. He then sold it to my other friend who hasn't had a problem with it. He still has the sb live compatibility problem though. He reckons that there are some programs/patches that can fix the problem. You might want to look into it a little more.....
