ok, im asking this question for my friend. Here are his specs:

Abit kt7a
1.4 tbird
512 pc133
sblive platinum w/ live drive
12x dvd
8x/4x/32x cdrw
NIC
geforce256 32meg ddr
60gig 5400rpm hd
20gig 7200rpm hd
thermoengine w/ delta hsf
300w fortron source.
good case with excelent airflow

right now his 1.4 is @1.53 (133 x 11.5) at a vcore of 1.85v (via hw moniter says 1.89-1.91). cpu idle is 31c and case is 27c.

he normally cant boot at 1.6 unless were lanning in someones garage with really low outside temps. the most he can increase the fsb is like 136 due to his cheap ram.

do you think the problem is his hsf or his psu? thats what im guessing but im not sure. thx

Does he have any case fans? Good case flow does not always mean the best way to go. I would think the cheap ram is to blame also. You have probaly reached the limit on multiplier increases so your only recourse is FSB and that ram will not take any more. Get better ram. OCZ "enhanced" PC-150 ram is only $34 for 256mb chips and shipping is cheap.

I have posted several times relating to the issues with power supplies....I reckon it is a PSU problem. Read my post on the importance of a good PSU! in the CPU section.

Good luck.........

I have seen this power supply do good at even higher mhz. I would not rule the P/S out completely, but my original diagnoses is the first thing I would look at.

just to add, at 1.53, his 5v rail is at 5.05 and his 12v is at 11.89

he is looking into getting new ram. the kingmax pc150 i believe. any other comments are appriciated. :)

Well that does change a few things, that 12v reading is low!! power supply may get bumped up to being first to get replaced. But some good ream would not hurt.
