i hope someone can help me with this problem i am having because haven't been able to figure it out and i've never experienced this sort of problem.

ok, I just put together a new system with an xp2400+ and EPoX 8RDA31. im running DDR400 memory (2x256). everything was running fine until i tried to install windows and the installation just stopped after like 3 minutes. i then restarted the comp to retry, but the cd wouldn't read. a message came up saying "verifying pool data...". i havent been patient enough to find out what happens after that, but i dont think anything will. I noticed that the floppy disk light is illuminated for no apparent reason. I decided to try installing from floppy. Another problem came up... I see my wireless keyboard hub connection light turn off.. and realize that the USB ports arent functioning anymore along with the PS/2 port. Not sure if anything else stopped working. I thought maybe it had something to do with the hard drive, so i swapped it with one that had XP on it already. i was given a boot menu to select with installation of XP (i had two) to run. But keyboard didnt work. so i've basically come down to the conclusion that my keyboard stops functioning while trying to access my hard drive and floppy drive. I dont know if this has anything to do with the CD not running from the CDRW drive, but i think it might. I'm so confused, someone please help.

Well one thing is that it is a good guess that your floppy cable is reversed because of the light staying on. While you in there check your IDE cables and make sure that your blue end is in the IDE port. Check your drive jumpers and your cable conections. These are the things I would check first if I had this stuff.

k those are some things i should check. I didnt make my self clear, i meant the floppy light comes on when the "Verifying pool data..." message comes on. The IDE cables are fine, I checked that and I even swapped them around just incase. but i'll check on the jumpers... anyone else got any ideas.. ?

ok well actually i've changed my main problem to: why doesn't the cd rom drive run the xp installation cd at boot but the floppy will? It worked once but now i dont know. It just doesn't want to load.

What about your bios is it set to boot other or some such wording?
