So here goes. I was at a garage sale and found a box which contains the following:
--ABit BX6 Rev.2.0(Manual included)
--Intel Celeron 300A(yeah I know... old!)
--540MB Hard Drive(Connor)
--PCI Video card(Trident)

They didn't know if any of this worked so they sold it to me for $10. I took it home added cd-rom and 128MB PC100 RAM, TADAAAAA it starts up. Here comes the problem. The machine fails to boot into Windows95(installed on the Hard drive).

So I tried the following:
1. Cleared the CMOS - starts but stalls while loading Win95.
2. Upgraded the BIOS to most recent version. Confirmed
that the BIOS upgrade worked - starts but stalls while
loading Win95.
3. Removed Cel300A and placed a 700Mhz w/Slotket - starts but
stalls while loading Win95.
4. With 300A installed I booted up using CD-ROM, tried to
install Windows98 but stalls after the setup
initialization(scandisk, surface scan, etc.)
5. With 700Mhz installed I booted up using CD-ROM, tried to
install Windows98 but stalls after the setup
initialization(scandisk, surface scan, etc.)

Can anyone give me any clues on what may be causing this? My hopes for this machine was to use it as my new Linux server.
*** by the way I bought a case including a 300W PS ***

Hard drive's shot.

I agree.....gotta be a Hard Drive problem. Try a spare or buy a new one if you got the $$$$ - that'd make a nice server right there!

If it still doesn't work, the Hard drive controller on the motherboard itself may be shot. Try the 540MB hard drive on a newer computer - does it still crap out?

Even with the few problems, I would've nabbed that box of stuff in a blink for $10! Hooray for bargain hunting!!!!

Thanks for all the input. Anyhow, I finally got this machine to boot after I switched the video card from PCI slot 1 to slot 4. This was pretty fun. I think I'll OC this CPU to see how high I can go.

A 300A with decent cooling might get as high as 500MHz. Take good care of that chip and it will serve you well.

OKay, if not the harddrive swap the PCI slot for your video card... yeah, that's what I meant to say!..

Smart move dude. Probably a IRQ conflict.
Congrats on the great deal you just got .

Make sure that in Bios its set that you have a PNP OS. that will help with those IRQ problems in the future.
