View Full Version : still cant hit 1 gig with celeron 800
 OK, i did what you guys told me to, and I went and spent the money to get a descent fan and heatsink (SVC Goldentgate 30, supposedly same as glaciator?) I still cant get it to run 3dmark2001 without locking up. It says that it is running cooler than before 95 F as compared to the old heatsink fan at 98-101 F. Not really sure how good that is, but I did try to increase voltage, but that just makes the L2 cache angry (get an error saying that the cache has something wrong). What programs can i get to tell what my temps are, (one that actually works, unlike some I have tried). Computer specs are: Soyo SY-7VCA, Celeron 800, 256 megs of PNY PC 133 ram, Maxtor 30 7200 rpm H.D., HP 12x8X32 burner, 52X cdrom, 2 4 in. case fans and a crappy MX200 32 mb AGP video card. (actually it isnt just the generic card, I do get better results than what I have seen posted from lots of others). O.K. I have told you exactly what I have in my computer, now can anyone give me any suggestions other than peltier or liquid cooling to get this comp to over 1 gig?

What fsb are you running at?

yeah. What fsb are you running at.. You might need to boost it up a little. i feel bad for you because I have a 800 celeron too. i got mine to 1,300. Crazy hun?? All with aircooling. i dont know how much you payed for that heat sink and fan you got, but the thermalright sk-6 heat sink with the delta 38cfm is awsome. that is what i have. Heat sink is cold even when on for a whole day and into the night. Mine runs 3d mark 2001 fine. I suggest getting that heat sink with the delta fan if you dont mind noise. Just blast those mp3's. lol!!! And it is only 40 dollars for heat sink and fan. Maybe that is kinda high. The prices have probably gone down too. when I bought mine, it was 70 dollars. Ouch for me! Well have fun and happy overl****ing. If you have any questons, e-mail me at greenwalk50hotmail.com

Dude, are you purposely spelling
overclocking as over-****ing?
To be funny perhaps? It was funny the first time I saw it now im confused

Zuck, funny you mentioned that, I have a funny story about working on a computer with a friend and accidently typing in fdisk wrong, I will let your immaginations loose on what happened.
Now back to the topic. Try going all the way to 133 with an increased voltage and see what happens. Bump up the voltage some, if it craps out, go one step further. BUt no further than a 1V more than what it is at for now. What thermal goop are you using? I have that same heatsink and fan and am running my celey at 1ghz at 1.85V(need to fix the sig) and its fine. You shouldn't be having too many problems with the 800 to a gig then. Can you try it at say 120mhz bus? And then bump it up. You may want to try burning in the chip too. Try keeping it at 800mhz for now, but bump the voltage up some on it and run some very intensive apps for a while like SETI or Folding(and help out our teams :D ) as this often can help an overclock happen. Best of luck to you!

Well your HSF is like the Gladiator not Glaciator but anyway depending on who you ask it does just as good as SK6 ive heard many a AMD user say they have had the same results using both HSF's so you have a good HSF no need to upgrade, as far as why you cant get higher you may have a piece of hardware that does not like running out of spec, also if your FSB is over 133 then your memory may be the weakest link you may need to set it to minus clock speed if you have settings like that. You have kind of a wierd problem getting errors when raising CV how high are you going? your temps are not all that bad as long as thats full load, one note did you lapp the Goldengate? mine needed it badly when it arrived.

Some 800's are just lemons.
i had an 800 cCo that whould not hit 133 FSB
WITH A WATERCOOLER , was i ever ****ed
best i could do was post at 130 1/4 of the time (2.1V)
stable, 117.
So i sold the chip and put back in old faithfull
Celeron 2 cBo 633 @ 1066, its an old early on celeron
but hey, what works work.
