quick explanation needed if possible

i am at the neighbors house and im trying to install an ethernet card but kept running into problems i thought it was an irq problem.so i go in to system information and check the irq's and it says that they are all free. why would that be im running windows 98 and amibios i need a quick response if possible and thanks for the info.

try removing the NIC card in device manager...(delete it)..and either hit "refresh" or F5 key or re-boot.

i used the motherboard cd and reinstalled everything i could find on it and bam the irq s came back. thans for your input though
