Hi,
well i just bought another t-bird machine, and i got a 1.2 GHz chip, and planning to put the Thermaltake super orb cooler...
i've read the articles, and know about that suff that makes contact with the CPU, althought they don't ship the HSF with it but never mid...
i am wondering if you had expiriences with it?? was it good or bad??
i mean is it enough to cool the chip, or do i have to get something more powerfull??
(btw, i always run my case open with lots of fans blowin' in and out, and the mainboard is A7V133)
thx for any replies,
bye,
Here is one review (http://www.klhardware.com/superorb.html)
Here is another one (http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Reviews/superorb/)
The web-sites tested the cooler on Duron 600MHz and Duron 600MHz overclocked to 850MHz, but I think it says enough. I personally would not recommend it. If they got 45'C on Duron@850MHz at a full load, I'd say the temp will be pretty big on a T-bird @1.2

the Sorb is not enough for a 1.2ghz tbird. Get a SK-6 with delta or Glaciator. If you HAVE to have an orb, the Dragon Orb3 is pretty decent, but the two mentioned before are much better.
Orbs suck.
All models, all makes.
They offer nothing more than a gimmick design so you go "Look! How cool! I want one of those!"..then it sucks.
If you're going to spend cash on something, get something that's ugly and works.

well regretably i have to say that's among the most powerfull stuff i can get in my country... i have a water cooler but it's still in building process...
although i checked all the links and they've all commended the Super Orb.... and i have read another review at "Insane Hardware" they've tested it on a T-bird 900 and got 100% load temps, like 40 tops... since i'm getting 1.2 can i expect something like 50 tops???
Is everything more than that a little critical, and btw what is the borderline t-bird 1.2 temp???
thx,
If you can, try ordering online. The cooler the chip is the better it will be.
and here is the temperature table. Click Here (http://www.heatsink-guide.com/maxtemp.htm)
but keep in mind that the table shows the max temperature the chip can take before it fries, it can have stabillity problems when its cooler than the table shows.

If you use a Super Orb on a 1.2, don't overclock it. The Orbs are barely adequate for lower end tbirds, running at default, and PIII's only slightly overclocked.

ok, i won't OC it then.... :)
but now i'm wondering something else... i've read here that some people are getting 1.85V even if it's set to 1.75... how's that possibile??? can i chek that out in my mobo to see if that's my case (the mobo is ASUS A7v133-C...the same model as A7V133 but without RAID)... oh and btw is SiSoft Sandra able to quality detect temps like that Asus doctor utility or something... and the vcore voltage too...
thx,
i hate my superorb its is loud with two crappy fan fans plus i still get in to the lower 50s on my 1 gig and it is huge and has to be modded on a abit kt7 raid. so now i am going to try water cooling. good luck.

my super orb on my axia 1.2 AMD had to be modded to fit, and the temps are high but then again, my mobo, video gpu and video ram temps are way up there too.

Orbs aren't worth the money. They cool "ok" at rated speed and VCore, but Oc the least little bit and you're playing with fire.

they are pants, get a better cooler, like a 486 heatsink. no really, if you have enough money get the SK6, if you don't go and steal something and sell it for money

I´m using a golden Orb very happily
as PAPERWEIGHT :D

I had an Orb and it nearly blew my chip my temps got to well over 80C and I had only been playing unreal for a few mins.
The case cooling was perfect and it is the same case cooling setup I have now so that is my recomendation about the orb.
there is a reveiw on my website if your interested it has all the techie info you may need....

LOL!!! Can you plug it in & use it as a shredder?

I got this 'Stupid' (Super) Orb and I don't know how to remove it, I got a Green Cooler from a friend he says his temps with 1Gig T-bird never get beyond 43C and mine are at 57C!! I have no clue how to remove it without braking something...
Any one could suggest something please??? I gotta return the GC to the friend tommorow, so I'm in a hurry!

I neve had a problem removing mine all you do is get a small headed flat screwdriver and find the clip of the heatsink then you will find a type of handle thing, there is a space on their where you put the screwdriver in and slowly prise the clip away from the CPU....
Don't screw it up, it will cost you...
Good Luck

U mean I'm putting the srew driver on the clip on the out side of the orb into that little hole in it?
What motion do I do next?
And what could I screw up removing the orb?

basically push down with the screwdriver and the slowly pull away from the white plastic clip on the mobo. the heatsink clip should come off no problem I did the same thing to mine last night...
The only thing you could do i crack the cpu core or damage it by scratches...

if you don't wanna do that by yourself take it to a local pc shop they can do it for u and if they screw it up its their fault:)

I don't have a PC shop localy, the nearest PC shop is where I bought the comp, I'll try to remove it myself later...
Do u think that the temp output of a 1 Gig Tbird os much lower than the output of my 1.2?

The Smorb (Super Mini Orb) isn't even adaquete for a T-bird 900, just check my idle temps with it.

I wouldn't have thought there would have been a large amount of difference although the voltage is lower on the 1gig (i think) correct me if i'm wrong.
You may see a 1 or 2 degree difference but thats about all, let me know what the voltages are for your CPU...
Ihave a 1.2 and nearly changed down because things were getting too hot but then I spend some cash and got the Global Win CAK38 cooler and things have worked very well since I got that.

to be honest with you, you must decide wheter you would rather spend the money on a new chip (because your has over heated) or just get a new cooler.
To be honest with the super mini can't even used well as a paperweight so I wouldn't bother with get an SK6, Glaciator, or a Global Win Like me...
I am folding now and the highest my temps have got today, (comp on allday doing folding) is 47C....
Global Win worked for my chip so maybe they will work for yours...

U can see my Vcore and temps on my sig, a guy I know got a huge Green Cooler for his 1Gig like I said b4, and his max temps are 43C

I haven´t tried until now, but I should:D
I had the super orb with a 1.2 and my temps were 52*c idle
