The official tech demos are finally out. (http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_downloads_nvidia.html) These are worth getting even if you've already downloaded them from the earlier leak.

The leaked timbury ran horribly on my computer, but the official one includes a Timbury and a Timbury Lite, both of which run well on my BFG 6800GT@stock. Will be trying out the Nalu to see if there's any improvement and Clear Sailing which I've yet to see.

edit: tried out pirates. Technologically it's neat I guess. It's kinda fun for a few minutes because it's more "interactive" than its brethren. You can launch cannons at the ship and return fire. The demo overall is kinda dull though since there is little else to look at other than the vertex/pixel shaded water. They should have gone with the full battle sequence they had originally planned. Oh and fair warning, I couldn't figure out how to close the "about" window once I opened it, had to restart the whole demo. Seems like the dev team spent all their time on nalu and timbury.

Thanks Sanctus. Just downloaded and installed Clear Sailing and Timbury on my box. I'm downloading Nalu right now. This will be the first I've seen of them outside of the videos that were on nzone. Great stuff. Timbury looks like something out of Pixar Studios, and that's no kidding. The water in Clear Sailing is almost unreal in it's quality. Well, Nalu just finished dl'ing. Gonna get her installed and check her out. Thanks again

A Nalu shot with IQ set to quality, and AA/AF settings at 4X/8X

The demos are really quite awesome. While that pic of nalu is good, it just doesn't do it justice seeing it in run in front of you.

Well lets put it this way I am going from a fx5200 to a 6800. I am going to be blown away, to say the least

Sorry to ask, but what exactly are they for? To test how good your video card is or what?

They're "technology demos". They are basically for showing off the rendering performance capability of the card. So in essence you're right; They're really just bits of braggadocio. I still like 'em though.

Nalu is delicious. Actually I was surprised that to me her hair is more impressive in stills than in motion. It doesn't move quite right sometimes depending on what she's doing and the angle of the camera. It seems a little stiff in motion. Her fluid body movements, skin detail, soft shadows, and her scales though are very drool worthy. I watched the demo loop through at least a dozen times before I finally snapped out of it and reminded myself I bought the card for games, not staring at some looping tech demo all day.
