Hey guys I'm thinking about upgrading my current system but I'm not sure If I'm going to see any apprechiable difference in speed so I wanted to get some feed back.

I have a Pentium 4 3.0Ghz 512k that doesn't like to overclock very much even with watercooling and a asus p4c800 motherboard. I have the opportunity to get an AMD 3200+ 754 and Asus K8V SE Deluxe motherboard for $179.99 after rebate dirrect from AMD via retail access. I'm going to have to get a new water block and mod my new case to fit my oversized radiator. I should be able to get $160-$180 for the P4 and maybe $40 for the board. So i should be able to break even.

Let me know what you guys think about this and my pricing for the used parts and any sugestions for a high performance/inexpencise waterblock with 3/8" inlets.

My only consern is that I don't know if VIA is going to come out with a motherboard with PCI express for the 754 64s.

Thankyou, Ian

Well your current motherboard doesn't have PCI Express right now anyway. And if you break even, and get more performance (you are a gamer right?) then why not do the switch? If you don't really want to, just buy th $179 setup and eBay it. You'll get lots of money from that.

As for your water cooling I don't know anything about that.

Yeah your probably right. I'd probably like performance rathter than getting alittle quick cash. Do my prices for the used hardware sound decent? How much better is the 3200+ than my P4? Do you think I'd have an easier time overclocking the amd?

IMO, now is probobly not the best time to be switching hardware. Since you can probobly play most games at good framerates, IMO, you should wait till maybe PCI express arrives for A64 and some other stuff too. The performance increase wont be very noticable. IMO, you're probobly just wasting alot of money.

No, I'm not even using an Athlon 64 atm. My computer is in 10 or so pieces (waiting on new hardware.) But I do have Windows XP 64 installed on mine, along with Windows XP Pro. I use XP Pro though, mostly because its what I installed everything on to begin with anyway. But, when I get my new motherboard and video card (hopefully Monday) I'll try Windows 64 full time. I did score a little higher in 3DMark 01 with it.
