how would i prevent if my computer just doesn't boot one day? one time my comp said couldn't find some .dll and it never booted. i had to format. how could i prevent this? boot disk maybe if so how do i make one

What version of Windows is it? Your question is very vague and very general.

What did you do before the dll went missing, what could have caused it? Also, do you know what dll it was?

Not if you don't know what the problem is.

boot disc is helpful for sure but, If you don't know what you are trying to fix, it will not be of much use. Another great tool is right on the XP disc. The support tools are rather helpful. They won't be a silver bullet, but if you know what you are looking for, you will be able to make most repairs from the recovery console. These should be installed before you crash the OS though.
