Hi, I'm pretty new to overclocking and cooling and everything, I'm 16, just built my computer, it's a thunderbird 900, I overclocked the FSB to 954 for now, any higher results in too much heat when i try to play 3d games or when cpu is at high load. I have a heatsink and fan for my cpu and another heatsink and fan for my GeForce2 video card and one fan that takes the hot air out.

The problem is, my case offer only one apparent place to mount a fan on and the motherboard has only 3 fan power connectors. 2 are already used up, 1 for the cpu and 1 for the fan that takes the air out.

I read that fan fest article and the guy had 7 fans, does that mean he had 7 fan connectors on his motherboard? Can I use another source for the powering of fans?

Also, in another article the guy mounted a fan at the front of the case to take air in, but on my case there is the pc speaker there, but there are holes there that would be suitable for a fan placement, so can i just move the pc speaker to some other place and mount a fan there? Should I also tape shut the airholes from the power source that leads into the case?

Well, thanks for listening, any suggestions would be great, I probably should stop typing now . . .

Welcome to the forum, most mid tower cases only offer 1 or 2 build in places for additional fans, 9 times out of 10, unless you have a huge server case with a wackload of places for fans then you are going to have to do some surgery, you should check out the case cooling section of this webpage, you don't have to connect a fan directly to the mobo, if you have some extra molexes on your ps then you can attatch your fan to that, red wire = 5v, yellow = 12v, the black wires are the ground(negative) wires, check out the case cooling section it will explain everything you need to know

Yep a hole or 2 is in order. A hole on the top rear of the case with a fan attached to the PSU (if it has a 3 pin conector you can get a 3 to 4 pin adapter). And another fan on the left side with half the flow going under the AGP card and half going over.

Thanks for all the help guys, I'm currently using this fan i have at my house for cooling people and have it placed on the left side of the pc, with the case open and it's blowing air into it, this seems to lower the system temp by 7 - 8 c and CPU about 5 - 6 c. Do you guys see anything wrong with this idea? Also my CPU is a 900 Thunderbird, and I've overclocked it to 972 via FSB from the motherboard, how much voltage should i increase? I currently used +0.75 from default in my BIOS setup I think, either that or +0.075, not sure.

One more thing, what do you guys think is the maximum my CPU can overclock to? I have a chaintech 7a7j2 motherboard, and it's suppose to be really good for overclocking and stability.

check out the cpu database on the home page of this site, that would tell you how fast ppl have got their chips

And if you rig up a setup like this, you can control the speed (and volume) of your fans. This is the overcomplicated version I came up with. :p

the idea is to have even air flow going in and out, to connect up extra fans get a cable called a 3-4 pin adaptor wich has the fan connector on one end and a hard disk connector on the other, i dont know where you heard that about your motherboard but you cpu should go up to the fastest the mobo can take but the biggest problem is cooling, get a good heatsink(and i am only 14)

nice pic jayhawk did you do this mod? I might have to give it a try on my new case.
