any one know? considering buying a maxtor 250GB with 16MB cache, but wondering if it would make a significant difference.

16MB cache?? I didn't even know they existed. But I would assume that they perform considerably better. What is the cost difference between the two?

200ish for 250gb.
IBM/Hitachi has them too. I am sure Western Digital too.
16MB I can see it making a difference with Serial ATA 300 or even higher. That new type of SATA access on those 925x Intel Boards? Cannot remember the name of that type of SATA access.
Maybe for loading times that 16mb cache on the HD can make a difference for DOOM3. There are alot of compressed files for DOOM3.
