well i was taking my FOP38 off my board to do a good lapping when the strangest thing happened....the clip broke into 3 pieces under hardly ANY load...well i don't have any spare clips around, and my wife is not knowledgable about HSFs, so i told her i needed a new one....ordered me an SK6 today ;) 3 days until arrival (now all i need is a new 1gig). :) :) :)

NyTe,
My FOP32 (little bro to the FOP38) clip broke also. The floppy end bit came off and wouldn't go back on. I took advantage of this to 4-bolt mount it. I clipped a few fin edges and then ran a rubber band around the bolts but it tightend on good with washers on top of the fins. Be careful if you do try this because I crushed a Duron before I realized I need a shim if I used high pressure. With a shim I could tork the crud out of it and my temps dropped a lot. Could have also been a bias on my insocket thermistor but what the heck!
My $.02

GlobalWin changed the design of the clips that originally came with FOP-32/38's. The original ones sucked, to put it plainly. You can fix the original ones after the buckles spring out of place. It's tricky, but the buckle can be coaxed into place. Then you must attach the buckle end to the lug on its side first, then the other end, (without the buckle) to its lug.
The new buckles rock. They can't "fall out of place" with a puff of breeze, and have a notch in the top of them that accommodates the blade of a stubby common(flat blade) screwdriver--perfectly. The screwdriver applies all the pressure- which doesn't interfere with the free movement of the buckle, at all.
