Well the parts arrived last night. I spent about 3 hours putting it together. I must say it was the most amazing experience of my computer life using that Lian Li PC-12 case. By far that sucker absolutely amazed me. It was such a pleasure to use. And the enermax 430watt power supply was also OBVIOUSLY high quality. I have never seen such high quality parts in my LIFE. It was such a pleasure. But then the trouble began. I had it all connected and booted. It took me 3 frigin hours to realize that the IDE3 port on my abit KG7 was not working right. I was trying to set up RAID 0 with two drives set to master on IDE 3 and 4 and it lock the PC up on bootup during the RAID detection phase. I finally realized that if I seriosuly bent the IDE3 port and/or jiggled it back and forth for awhile I could get it to detect and it would pass that screen up. Basically there must be a loose connection in the motherboard. I don't see what else this could be. If I get it to work and I don't bump the PC it will continue to work but this ****es me off. I want a fully functional motherboard damnit. Anyone else have this problem? Gah. Now I guess I have to start all over and send this MB back and get another one... there goes another week without a COMP.... :(

Ouch. Sounds like a loose pin on the IDE connector. Did you replace the IDE cable just to be sure it's not that? I've had a (very) few bad IDE cables, and even less bad IDE ports on a mobo. If it's not the IDE cable, or the IDE port on the hard drive, you might wanna get it replaced.

Three hours, huh? It's gotta be your first computer. I'm to the point where as long as I have all the parts I need, I can put all the hardware together in about a half hour. Just gotta keep in mind to check the jumpers first. That's bit me and my roommies in the butt a time or two. And it really sucks. Oh, and never close the case up until you're sure it's all working fine. Nothing sucks worse than having to keep opening and closing the case because you didn't seat the video card or processor right.

I tried swapping the two raid drives several times. It took me over and hour to diagnose the problem cause sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. I finally realized that if anything was plugged into IDE 3 it would freeze the system during raid detection unless I jiggled the IDE3 port on th emotherboard.

And the reason it took so long was because I was installing window kit, neon cold cathode lights, I have ALOT of drives and alot of special modifications that I had to make. SO THERE! its my 8th computer. :)

Oh, well, yeah, it'll take longer if you add all those mods. ;)
I was just talking about a straight, plain Jane computer. Nothing fancy. If you've built eight, I figger you're up on me. And I've never done RAID.

Yep, sounds like that IDE channel bad. That sorta thing sucks. Only option is to get it replaced, I guess. Hope you kept the reciept.
