A quick search on pricewatch will reveal several online retailers are already listing prices for 1.9 and 2.0 GHz Socket 478 P4s. I can find 1.9s listed at $417, and 2.0s at $599.

Unfortunately, neither the 1.9 or 2.0 will be released in .13micron form. All CPUs through 2.0 will continue to be .18micron construction. .13s should start around 2.2. mmm..... .13 micron goodness.......

Yea, I read somewhere that the current Socket design would never go over 2GHz, and that Intel would phase out the old design and start the new design "socket478?" anyway, and throw in the Northwood processor which is supposed to be in flavors of 2.1GHz and 2.2GHz at first and then expect 2.3GHz and 2.4GHz in January 2002.

You heard right. Socket 423 is only being built up to 2.0 GHz. For the 1.9 and 2.0 Socket 478, they are basically using the same core as the 423, just on a different PGA. The subsequent 478s will be the .13 micron dies, and this is where you'll really see the clock speeds rocket.

The higher pin count is supposed to accommodate the DDR capabilities of the 845 chipset. This is all to early to deal with. motherboard availablity, chipset availability, all must be watched. Will Intel be able to pull off the dual memory scheme.( Remember they failed with PIII dual memory. ).
