Ok, I have no freaking idea what is going on. Here is the setup. I just got a new Asus mobo, P4S533-MX. Got everything into it fine, worked great. Put in the new dvd drive and 30gb hdd. Here comes the problem. My Maxtor 100/133 PCI IDE card is being odd, though im not sure w/ what. At first, it was recognizing both the DVD drive and HDD, though only the DVD drive would show up in windows. Ok, so I went and set the HDD to master, and DVD to slave. Now the DVD drive dosent show up in windows, but neither does my other cd drive, on the secondary mobo IDE chain. Ok, so I figure I would just go back to the settings I had, and try to go from there. Nu uh. Now, my IDE card wants to be spastic. It will not recognize anything. I play around alittle, get it to recognize the HDD. happy. HDD is set as the slave, so I put it as master. Turn on my comp, and it dosent work. Eh, ok, so I will just put it back to slave. Nu uh. Not a single change different, but it dosent work like that any more. I am so incredibly confused. Anybody have ANY recommendations?

are the jumper set correctly on the Hard drives and the DVD Drive? Does windows recognize the PCI IDE Card?

Yes, and yes. I have checked and rechecked the jumpers, done cable select, individual drives, everything. And ya, windows sees the PCI IDE card, and I have the drivers for it installed.

I have seen where some drives will not work with other drives. Usually this happens with older stuff in my experience.

They way that I would set it up is:
Primary master = Maxtor.
Primary slave = none
Secondary master = optical drive (CD or DVD)
Secondary slave = optical drive (CD or DVD)

The Maxtor is not a drive, its a Ultra ATA/133 PCI controller card.

Here is my current setup.

Primary Master: HDD
Primary Slave: HDD

Secondary Master: CD Drive
Secondary Slave: HDD

Adapter Primary Master: HDD
Adapter Primary Slave: DVD Drive

Ok, no idea what it was exactly, but I fixed it. I called Maxtor, and they said it was fried, tried to sell me another for $50. :-p I told them it wasnt, and hung up. Took out my primary cd drive, since the DVD is also a burner. From there, I set the HDD to master, plugged it into the card, and it worked. It has been working since, and everything shows up in windows. Thank you everybody who helped and offered advice.
