What is the best cooler i can get? i dont want to spend TOO much money. i wanna spend around 60 dollars. i odnt care about sound. The system i want to cool is a

1400Mhz 266SB athlon
40 gig 7200 maxtor HD
asus A7A266 mobo
512 megs of pc2100 ram

and ofcourse video card and sound card which im not going to mention. i also have a 24 inch case. alot of room for fans in that thing. so what cooler should i get? i was thinking about a Millenium Glaciator but if theres anything better i can get with 60 dollars that would be great. like i said i dont care about the noise.

if you are willing to spend the extra dollar, a water cooler can not be beaten. Also thier is a new alpha , that is right A NEW ALPHA.
that may be something to look into

ThermalRight SK-6 or a Millenium Glaciator.

I have heard good things about the Global Win CAK38. but i heard it was 1 pound and will crack a amd cpu so someone told me i need a shim. what is a shim? how much do they cost, any info would be nice.

a shim is a flat piece of material that is the same hight as your CPU core. the purpose of this is that the heatsink will not be puttin all the presure on the core but spread it out over the entire CPU.

If you get one, make sure it is not conductive. If it is , it will rise your CPU temps 1-3 C as it will more heat to the CPU package.

SO looks for NON- CONDUCTIVE, they are cheap, under $10

yea that is the best, but the sk6 is half as expensive and is almost as good.

The swiftech wont fit on my a7a266 motherboard anyhow. so which is better, Millenium Glaciator or sk6. can someone explain the water coler thing to me. where does the water come from? is it a constand source like a faucet or is there a resivoir?

Im running outa options here. Apparently the Millenium glaciator is too heavy for an athlon even with a shim casue it will break or something if the systems is transported. And the swiftech wont even fit on my motherboard. all that is left id the sk6. ive heard some good stuff about it. can anyone else reccomend some more info on abetter heatsink?

it has most of the big names on it.
missing a few as some newer heatsinks have come out...
but it will teach you some stuff, get an idea how big some are that you are looking at

The CAK38 is a pretty good HSF
cause of it'z all copper heatsink and the noisy delta

i recommend the SK6...i think it is better than ANY aircooled HSF right now....as for the Glaciator coming OFF, that was ONE post. Most likely he didn't have it all the way on, the clips are pretty reliable i hear <not my Fop38's, it broke>. I would go with the SK6 and spend the rest of the 60bucks on 120mm fans that will cool the inside of your case

the swiftech will fit on an A7A if you mod it. You'll need to cutt one corner out to leave room for the capacitors. I've seen pics of it being done. I don't think it would be all that difficult to do.
