View Full Version : Uber modded mouse
So i spotted Wolfe's (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=303107) Thread about pre-modded mice and i though i'd have a go myself seeing as i've done a far bit of electronics i though i'd be a farlt easy job for me.
So i had my Bits Box out seeing which LEDs i had, all were too dim on the mouse's low voltage (1.2v) Then i remebered i had a InfraRed LED that was quite low So i searched that out Then popped it it I assumed it would work cos IR isn't too far from Visible Red in wavelength. And It worked, I'm using it now, its great, it looks like the mouse if off but it work perfectly, kinda freaky.

thats pretty cool... i guess i could also ask for pics, but you would really just be showing us a mouse that looked off or broke so...
It could be a good mod for some people. I know some people that don't like their optical mouse because of the lights.
The average family-PC user doesn't like shiny distractive things.
I might just tell them about swapping the led for an infra-red one.
Nice mod. :)

Maybe a good mod for a stealth pc?
Wow, that is really cool. Makes me want to do it... Where can you find these infrared LEDs on-line? I've never seen them before..
I could post pictures, but really theres nothing to see, Just unplug your mouse then you'll get the idea.
The InfraRed LED was a left over from when i used to do electronics some, i think i got it from Maplin (http://maplin.co.uk/products/module.asp?CartID=040729230221187&moduleno=2253) But they're in england. Most electronic places should sell them
wow, infra red! way freaking weird! but man that is cool!

Wow, that's a cool idea. I bet it works better then the blue led mouse mod too since infra red is a closer wavelength then blue is.

I never thought of trying an infrared, although it makes perfect sense. My PC is in my bedroom, and I have to flop the mouse pad over my MS optical because the Big Red Eye scares me at night...
I'm assuming its just a regular bulb-type 5mm type, not a SMD type? I've never had much fun with SMD caps/LEDs... My biggest prob will be trying to get the shell apart - it looks like its glued together.
