I am running lots of fans in my system as well as a new CPu heat sink/fan by Vantec CCK with the Delta 7.000 rpm motor.
I am running a generic 300 watt PSu. MY system was stable at 600/800mhz @ 1.82 and 100fsb with a Chrome Orb. As soon as I added the Vantec, the system became unstable and I had to up the voltage to 1.84 to stabilize it. Not to mention I was also not able to plug the new fan into the motherboard as it simply would not run until I ran it straight to the PSU. Now I have also noticed that I can hear the power supply slow down and speed up as I do minor things such as change between programs or open multiple windows. It just almost seems like the PSu is running rather irraticly or something. Is it possible I need to move up to a 4-500 watt PS? And if so, are there any in particular that are rock solid and known for their gaming friendliness and dependability? thanks, Mike

I'm using a 400 watt antec, and I hear this happen too. I havn't ran into any problems yet, so I'm not too worried about it.

Some power supplies adjust their fan speed depending on temps.

If your Power supply has a thermal control system, as some P/S's do, i.e. Enermax, Sparkle etc. then the slowing down most probably is normal. But by the sound of it, your power supply sounds like it is overloaded. If your Vantec won't run off the MB then you will probably need to get a larger PS. I run a Fortron Source 450w - and with (8) 120mm fans (3) 80mm fans and all the other good stuff, the 450w is plenty.

U.S Can powersupplies are the best, they make no noise since the fan only spins 700rpm and there rated at 300/350 and 400watts. They are for professional pcs that require the most quiet conditions.
My 300watt powersupply goes for about $80 but is well worth its price for the performance and quietness you get back from it.

I have just a standard 250 watt power supply, and i hear the fans in my computer speed up and slow down as I switch between programs, but only if i listen hard, it has never caused me any problems yet..

I am not familiar with this brand you mentioned, " A1". I am fairly familiar with most of the ones that are supposed to be really top end such as Sparkle, Enlight, Antec. PowMax, etc. Is this a good PSU? I noticed that I can buy a PowMax 400 on Price watch for 57.00. I wonder which is best. I'd like to find a really high end unit with a minimmum of 400 watts at a descent price. The idea of throwing down 100.00 for a PS is not exciting to me.
As an aside, I set up another PSU as a second unit to run all of my fans and such. As soon as I did, I noticed and immediate improvment in the stabilty of my system over my present 300 watt unit made my a company called "Valueline". Ever heard of them. Probably some cheap ass generic that can be had for 25.00.

I don't hear it wind up too often, but it's just enough to be annoying to me. (in other words, I want it sounding the same all the time, unless there's a problem)
Mine is becoming more and more annoying every day i listen to it.. i think i'm going to do the same.
